Where To Stay In Stansted

The town of Stansted and its airport are located 30 miles from London in the County of Essex. The airport here is often used by those wishing to travel to other parts of Europe for a one or two week holiday or for a quick break. Because of this, you will find that there is plenty of accommodation to choose from when it comes to where to stay in Stansted.

Originally, the airport was a small airfield that was used during the Second World War as a home to thousands of US service men based in the UK at the time. It was also, where more than 100 air missions that were carried out during the war commenced from. Then after the end of the war, the first charter flight left from Stansted in 1946.

However, things then changed in 1985 and permission was given for the airport to be built. It took six years to build the airport that now stands at Stansted today and 8 million passengers pass through its doors each year. Because this airport is becoming very popular with travellers, accommodation was needed and this is why there is such a wide selection to choose from. Along with offering its guests a gentle and relaxing location, one can spend time admiring the mock Elizabethan façade. It provides you with a chance to admire the kind of English craftsmanship skills that are sadly very little used today.

In here, you will learn everything about this city's history dating back to the time of Lady Godiva through to the time of the dissolution of the church by King Henry VIII.

As well as the Cathedral for those who are interested in learning more about British motoring history then a visit to the Transport Museum is a must. It is important to remember that for a long time now Coventry has been associated with the production of motor vehicles. It his here that both the Jaguar Motor Company and Peugeot Motor Company still build cars in factories located on the outskirts of the city.

Another place, which may well, is of interest to you when visiting Coventry is "The Herbert". This is an art gallery and museum that is to be found located right in Coventry's cultural area. It has been undergoing some redevelopment works but Coventry City Council hope to have them complete by the early part of this year.

As well as the art gallery and museum at The Herbert, you will find their creative media studios and an arts information and history centre. Here you will be able to spend time exploring the city's cultural heritage and learn more about just how creative its people are.
